Fool's Fest Protest!
2002-03-30, 11:15 p.m.

April 1 is April Fool's Day and Adbuster's "Fool Fest" -- a day to have some fun at the expense of abusive corporations, and maybe wake some people up.

Adbusters has some ideas and a forum full of suggestions on their Fool's Fest page. I rather like this suggestion: " I like the "protest a protest" idea, perhaps a large goup of people dressed in suits (for extra effect some cigars and fake pot bellies )holding signs like "down with activism, up with complacency" or "stop thinking, it hurts our economy" " - Pete

So I am just posting to alert people that Monday is a national (and international!) day of Culture Jamming. If you have a free hour or two, join in. Print out some notes about how much Gap workers are paid and put them in pockets in the store. Stick post-it notes on particularly obnoxious advertisements in magazines (Borders never notices if you stand and "browse" for 20 minutes!). Go into McDonald's and give out fresh fruit to customers. Make some stickers saying "This food has been Genetically Engineered. Untested Unpredictable Unwanted. Call this food company and complain." (www.labelthis.org)

Have fun. And write about it in your diary!

"Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness. Let us stand with a greater determination. And let us move on in these powerful days, these days of challenge to make America what it ought to be. We have an opportunity to make America a better nation." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
